Working on continuity of project

We might wanna start thinking of how to 'open' our OSS Hub to public and how to grow our community to ensure on the continuity of the project.

Also considering importing the whole list of current OSS tools available from wikipedia so that any users who wish to contribute can just 'ctr+f' and find the tool in subject and contribute to it without having to worry about which category would the tool belong to and where to add the guide for the tool.

Forum

Hi all,

I have integrated a forum into the wiki. It is called AWC forum that is developed as an extension of mediawiki. It is open-sourced. You will notice a new forum menu at the right sidebar of every page.

It can be used but the layout and presentation is less than desirable still. But I think it is useful in building a community by having discussions. It also gives opportunites for more transparency and accountability.

Progress

1st tutorial for GIMP is uploaded.
(spent the whole afternoon doing the tutorial. met some problem during the uploading. have to re-size the images and make it fix nicely in the webpage and thus some trial and error involved. Not a easy one, but feel a sense of achievement.)

2nd tutorial for GIMP is uploaded too.
(after having previous experience, the uploading process become much smoother. A non-geek like me can contribute to the support of open source. So can you.)

Website Update

Iam using mediawiki to create a website that has the editable function. Also, I am hosting the website in a free web hosting service.

Next up, will be some customizations to suit our needs. It will definitely not be as comprehensive, but should be enough for the project. We can add things to it thereafter.

I will be focusing on this web development for the time being. You guys can look into the contents.

Brain Storm

Our objective

  • to support and promote the the software industry with OSS. With increasing piracy, proprietary industry is threatened. thus OSS is the solution to it. We can view OSS as sunrise industry and proprietary as sunset industry.
  • to provide one stop and self generating web for information and tutorials of OSS and the usage. (videos or/and step by step explanation)
  • to be interactive and user friendly so that the populace are able to upload their own tutorials, ideas, comments etc.
  • to attribute to the original producer and to provide library of source code to solve the issue of missing links or missing in action authors (for future development)
  • to give ideas on the possibility of combining several OSS to one major software which can perform different functions for different purposes. (for future development)
Please feel free to comment and make amendments.
